Lately I've been kind of obsessing over butcher block countertops. I know that it is nothing new on the scene - the well-oiled, natural look that creates the perfect contrast amongst painted kitchen cabinets - but lately I seem to be coming across more gorgeous images than ever before. And now, I can't help but consider the surface for my own kitchen.

With so many options out there now, butcher block comes in as a more budget-friendly alternative - especially when compared to its stone and composite counterparts (no pun intended!).
Dark stain, light stain, or no stain at all - going after the exact look that you love is well-within your reach.

I love the combination of surfaces in this image. Dark, dramatic cabinetry next to the natural wood of the block surface.
Sleek stainless steel appliances, warm metal hardware and classic subway tile.
A rustic-homey feel while maintaining a sense of chic.
